Once again, the 2013 Southern California Writers Conference was a weekend to remember. Per my usual, I encouraged writers to collect emails and business cards-not just from ‘the experts’-but from each other. You never know who you’re going to meet, and for some, connecting now may be of benefit later.

Hopefully, subscribers read the post offered last week about Genese Davis, a 2010 SCWC conferee who attended my workshop and kept in touch. Here’s an update and one more reason to make sure to ‘connect’ when you hang out with writers.

I met Genese at the same time one of my ‘with author’ indie books was about to be published. The lead author of The Booty Bible, Alicia Marie, introduced me to one of the country’s leading ‘gamers’ Jace Hall. Since then, we have stayed connected, Why? Simply because of the good vibes felt all the way around. So when Genese contacted me with her good news, I immediately contacted Jace and he immediately forwarded my email to his producer at The Jace Hall Show, a TV show where anything about gaming/gamers is featured. In no time, Genese made the connection to the show. Just last week, she and her novel was featured prominently  on the show.

Genese now has film footage and her book is not even published yet!

Writers, networking is key. Make sure you learn the skill and apply it properly. There’s a fine line between networking and pestering. Know the difference before you approach any one of your contacts.

It starts with the story and Genese Davis has written a compelling one about gamers in the gaming world.

I love when it all works out…..
