Query Letters: I have written many query letters. For many years, most of my query letters were rejected. I kept pitching until my query letters began garnering attention. My rejections turned sweeter- ‘Good idea but this isn’t for me‘ kind of rejections that let me know my hook was hooking.
I then became an editor-in-chief of a start-up lifestyle magazine where I was pitched to daily for 4 years. Those letters – I rejected most – taught me how much writers really don’t know about pitching a hookable idea via a letter whose length should not be more than about 500 words.
Yes, query letters hard to master.
This query letter workshop was filmed & edited by indie filmmaker, Vickie Patik. It combines lecture, discussion and critiques of several writers’ query letters. Hope it’s useful & if it is, please share.
Filmed at Santa Barbara City College, this MarketingtheMuse Query Letter Workshop is a great ‘entry level’ workshop for writers wondering what a query letter must do in order to attract attention from agents & editors. Feel free to share this video with your writer-ly friends!
